Community Board #14
Transportation Committee
August 11, 2014
After reading the story in the Wave "Ferry Woes For Brooklyn, Too" written by Jonathan Wolfe my wife and I decided to contact Community Board 7 today because we became suspicious about the new plans for the industrialization/development of Pier #4 in Brooklyn, which we wondered could it possibly put a halt on the Ferry Service at Pier #4 for Brooklyn residents which could impact the Ferry Service for the Rockaway's (the #'s). We called today and spoke with Jeremy Laufer the District Manager of Community Board #7 in Brooklyn. We asked Jeremy are the plans for the industrialization of Pier #4 a go or just a proposal, he said to us a proposal, but in his opinion it would take place. He said this is an "As of right project" which means approval is not needed. He did say that a task force (Ad Hoc Committee) was created in order to force the EDC into Community Board 7. We also asked him is there a timeline on this project and he said yes sometime by the end of this year. We wanted to know if the EDC submitted any plans and his answer was no. We asked Jeremy if this was going to effect the Rockaway/BAT Ferry service at Pier #4, he said no but the Ferry stop would be switched to the other side of the Pier and the Southern part of Pier would be used for barge storage. The Northern part of the Pier he stated would be for water-borne activities. Once again my wife and I feel the EDC does not come clean and seems to do whatever they want in this City.
