Hundreds of bikers, and Santa Claus, came to the VFW in Broad Channel to deliver toys and raise funds for the NY Families for Autistic Children Foundation.Under the warm, sunny skies of Sunday, Dec. 6, hundreds of motorcycles roared into Broad Channel on a special mission.
According to NY Families for Autistic Children, “200 big-hearted bikers helped to raise just shy of $15,000, and collect hundreds of toys, at the NYFAC Foundation’s 2nd Annual Toy Run.”
Starting off from Forest Park, the bikers were welcomed at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 260 in Broad Channel where they were treated to a large scale outdoor barbecue, live music, and prizes from WCBS FM. NYFAC’s Grand Marshal for the event was 11-year old Nicholas.
Thanks to the toy drive, each child at NYFAC’s annual holiday party on Dec. 13 was able to go home with a brand new toy.“We had a great turnout,” said Frank Scafo, NYFAC Foundation Board member and one of the organizers of the motorcycle run. “But more than anything, we were able to help the kids – that’s what matters most.”
