Flood Mitigation Project Advisory # 15/2014

Field Offices of the DDC's Resident Engineer and the Community Construction Liaison (CCL) have been relocated to 59 West 12th Road at the bay end of the street.

According to Ms. Fern Weinreich, the project's Community Construction Liaison (CCL), initial work will begin on the construction of the new bulkhead at the end of West 12th Road next week.

Next week you should expect to see the contractor setting in place a "turbidity screen" (a geotextile material [screen] with floats on the top, weights on the bottom and an anchorage system] that will stabilize loose soil and lessen erosion thus minimizing the movement of disturbed sediment and other material into Jamaica Bay.

An example of a turbidity screen barrier for in water control of silt and turbidity
around dredging activities, pile driving, rip-rap installation, etc.

As of this time there still has been no decision as to whether or not parking on W12th Road will have to be displaced to provide for the safe and unencumbered movement of equipment and vehicles up and down the street when this work starts.  As soon as a decision is forthcoming regarding on street parking, you will be advised immediately.
