MTA Advisory - Metro North and LIRR Reducing Service after 8 pm tonight

Notification issued 1/21/14 at 5:55 PM.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced today that its regional railroads – Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road – are reducing service after 8 pm tonight as snow accumulations make operating trains difficult. This is aimed at preventing trains from becoming stranded in accumulated snow, and to allow personnel to concentrate resources on trains that will continue to operate. The LIRR will reduce service on a branch-by-branch basis, consistent with its policy to curtail or suspend service if snow accumulations reach 10-13 inches. During rush hour, Metro-North will run a regular outbound evening rush hour schedule; however, service will be reduced after 8 pm Customers who must travel should leave as early as possible and monitor
