Who says only locals read neighborhood newspapers?

With only seven editions of his new Rockaway Times weekly under his belt, Editor in Chief Kevin Boyle is already making a name for our brand new neighborhood newspaper.

In this week’s edition Boyle published a story linking Broad Channel’s former Congressman and Twitter celebrity, Anthony Weiner, to a start up non-profit organization, the Rockaway Restoration Kitchen.

Within the space of only a couple of hours, The Rockaway Times story was picked up and sourced by a myriad of news outlets and other publications, locally, nationally and internationally for their own stories detailing Weiner’s newest attempt to regain a foothold on the public scene as a restaurateur.

For a short while on Friday, a link to one of these stories was even up on the Drudge Report, an American news aggregation website with more than 20 million visitors daily!

Danny Ruscillo, President of the 100th Precinct Community Council also advised me that Kevin was interviewed by WNYC radio early Friday afternoon regarding his Rockaway Times story on Anthony Weiner.

Yeah, I know it's not "Pulitzer" material, but it still begs the question - who says only locals read neighborhood newspapers?
