November 22, 2013
The Jamaica Bay Task Force will be meeting on Tuesday, December 3rd. The Task Force, involved for years with environmental issues facing the Bay, is one of the groups at the forefront of post-Sandy protection issues.
They will be meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center off Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel.
The meeting is open to the public and will include a question and answer period.
The night’s tentative agenda so far includes a National Park Service update, an update on the planned Science and Resiliency Center and the City’s Special Initiative on Rebuilding and Resiliency (SIRR) Commission.
The Jamaica Bay Task Force is a joint effort of the American Littoral Society and the Jamaica Bay EcoWatchers and is co-chaired by Dan Mundy Sr. and Don Riepe. Among other projects, the Task Force has been overseeing the replanting and restoration of several marsh islands west of Broad Channel.
It is considered that these islands will form a natural barrier that will blunt the force of any future storms
