Apparently more than a few people were confused about Councilman Ulrich's email of this past Wednesday which carried the headline "New York City Adopts New FEMA Maps.
After receiving an email from Kevin Boyle at the WAVE, I issued a corrected posting earlier today indicating that the final or official adoption of the new FEMA flood maps was still more than a year away.
Councilman Ulrich's office also published the below explanatory email today addressing the confusion.

***************
There seems to be a lot of confusion about the bill that was signed into law on Tuesday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently updating the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for New York City.
The last substantial update to the FIRMs was in 1983.
The basic gist of the new law is that people will now have the best available information as to what maps to use when they are in the process of building new homes or rebuilding substantially damaged properties.
It codifies the use of the preliminary maps going forward, and will automatically adopt the final maps after an extensive public review process.
The final Effective Flood Rate Insurance Map is not expected to be issued until 2015.
