HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM EDT MONDAY
* WHAT...South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. * WHEN...From 6 AM to 6 PM EDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Even sturdy and well secured tent structures could be damaged. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 6 PM EDT
MONDAY
* WHAT...Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding and shoreline impacts during Monday afternoon high tide. * WHERE...Kings (Brooklyn), Northeastern Suffolk, Southwestern Suffolk, Southeastern Suffolk, Southern Queens and Southern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...From noon to 6 PM EDT Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Minor to locally moderate flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Localized areas of 2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation are possible. Several roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Vehicles parked in the most vulnerable areas near the waterfront may become flooded. * SHORELINE IMPACTS...Along the Atlantic ocean beach front of Long Island, large breaking waves of 12 to 16 ft will result in significant beach erosion. Areas of dune erosion and localized overwashes are possible, which would result in some flooding of roadways and vulnerable structures behind protective dunes. Along the Brooklyn beachfront and Orient Point, breaking waves of 4 to 7 ft will result in beach erosion with minor dune erosion, localized damage to dune structures and wave splashovers possible. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
