HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM EDT MONDAY
* WHAT...South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph
expected.
* WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New
York.
* WHEN...From 6 AM to 6 PM EDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Even sturdy and well secured tent structures could be damaged.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult,
especially for high profile vehicles.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around
trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of
your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if
you must drive.
COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 6 PM EDT
MONDAY
* WHAT...Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding and shoreline
impacts during Monday afternoon high tide.
* WHERE...Kings (Brooklyn), Northeastern Suffolk, Southwestern
Suffolk, Southeastern Suffolk, Southern Queens and Southern
Nassau Counties.
* WHEN...From noon to 6 PM EDT Monday.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Minor to locally moderate flooding is
expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront
and shoreline. Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above
ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Localized areas of
2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation are possible. Several roads and low
lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and
homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will
experience shallow flooding. Vehicles parked in the most
vulnerable areas near the waterfront may become flooded.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Along the Atlantic ocean beach front of
Long Island, large breaking waves of 12 to 16 ft will result in
significant beach erosion. Areas of dune erosion and localized
overwashes are possible, which would result in some flooding of
roadways and vulnerable structures behind protective dunes.
Along the Brooklyn beachfront and Orient Point, breaking waves
of 4 to 7 ft will result in beach erosion with minor dune
erosion, localized damage to dune structures and wave
splashovers possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.
