Coastal Hazard Message
National Weather Service New York NY
425 AM EDT Wed Oct 16 2019
...Minor Coastal Flooding Isolated Today and Widespread Tonight...
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO
1 AM EDT THURSDAY...
* LOCATIONS...Vulnerable coastal locations of Southern Queens NY and
Southern Nassau NY.
* TIMING...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 9 PM this
evening to 1 AM EDT Thursday. For the Coastal Flood Statement,
from 9 AM this morning to noon EDT today.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS....Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline.
Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in
low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property
including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with
basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
Heavy rain during the time of high tide may exacerbate shoreline
roadway and poor drainage flooding.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking waves will result in beach erosion
and/or wave splashover onto shoreline roads and properties.
* NOTE: A strong frontal system approaches today, with a rapidly
intensifying coastal low tracking just southeast of the area
tonight. This will result in moderate to heavy rainfall late
this afternoon and night. Much of the area will see 2 to 3
inches of rainfall with the potential for localized bands of
higher amounts. The heaviest rain will exit the area by
midnight.
