Coastal Hazard Message
National Weather Service New York NY
415 PM EDT Wed Oct 9 2019
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 11 AM EDT
THURSDAY...
* LOCATIONS...Southern Queens.
* TIMING...From 5 AM to 11 AM EDT Thursday.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...There is a low threat of property
damage. Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable
locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 to
2 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable
areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking
lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the
waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...The combination of elevated water levels and
large breaking waves will cause beach flooding and erosion on
the oceanfront.
* OUTLOOK...The low threat of property damage, with shallow
flooding and 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level, could
continue for multiple high tide cycles through Saturday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
&&
Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.

Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J. Mahon West 12th Road, Broad Channel]
