Halloween At The BC American Legion

Princess Leia, Maleficent, pirates, cowboys, Red Riding Wolf, Popeye and Olive Oyl, a glowing Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, The Mask, complete with yellow zoot suit, assorted superheroes and even Gumby were just a few of the assorted and imaginative characters who partied the night away at the American Legion’s 3rd Annual Halloween Party in Broad Channel.
The colorful celebration took place on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Legion Hall. It included music by DJ’s@Work, lights and smoke effects, and haunting decorations. There was also a hot buffet, drinks and lots of dancing.
First prize for best costume went to Frank Poretto as a towering Jack Skellington (on stilts) from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Second prize went to Tommy Corbett, who dressed as a certain infamous lion hunting dentist, complete with Cecil the Lion draped over his shoulders. Taking the group costume concept to a new level, and also taking Third Prize, were more than a dozen people who came as the cast and crew of Saturday Night Live.
Judges agreed picking only three standouts from the evenings imaginative costumes was a difficult task.
The gathering ended shortly after midnight, however costumed characters were seen haunting the neighborhood well into the night!
