It's My Turn: Danny and Linda Ruscillo

The Unspent Ferry Money

It’s My Turn

By Danny Ruscillo & Linda Ruscillo, Rockaway Park Residents

The Rockaway community has constantly been told that there is $15 million which was put in place for ferry service (allocated funds) by Anthony Weiner when he was our Congressman.
Well, after some research we discovered the exact amount of the federal funds was a total of $15,022,126. This money was earmarked by the Congressman which states “PURCHASE THREE FERRIES AND ESTABLISH SYSTEM FOR FERRY SERVICE FROM ROCKAWAY PENINSULA.” We located this information on the internet at SAFETEALU (Year 2005). This stands for Safe Accountable Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act Legacy for Users. We would like to share this information on the ferry money with the Rockaway community by giving the link: data.sunlightlabs.com/Government/Unspent-Federal-Highway- Administration-Earmarks/tsqz-r7ui
When you get to the site you must go to #1877 New York, all allocated funds are listed by State in alphabetical order. The thing that really puzzles us is how long does all this allocated money just sit there and when or will it disappear. These are the questions we the people should inquire about. As you read the information on the ferry money, take a look at all the other money that has been allocated for many other projects statewide.
So all know, there was an inquiry email sent by us to Congressman Meeks’ office, specifically about the $15 million plus. His representative replied back to me “the money was for Docks and Docks only” so I guess he was wrong.
