Subj: Fwd: Bye bye bus stops

Dan,
Please notify all of the civic leaders, senior citizens and students in Broad Channel  & the Rockaways that the MTA will  be taking away a bus stop at 5th Road/Cross Bay Blvd. in Broad Channel and a few more stops in the Rockaways as well under the current SBS/BRT proposal.
Regarding Broad Channel although I understand that there might be a parking shortage in Broad Channel tell the civic leaders to first get input from the people that use the buses in Broad Channel and if those people like walking over a quarter of a mile to a half of a mile for a bus stop. Years ago when theQ21 local route operated to the Rockaways there were about six to seven local stops now there are three Q52/Q53 current limited stops and being proposed only two due to the elimination of 5th Road as being proposed.  This is not only bad for passengers this is bad for business.  A SBS stop at 20th Road/ Cross Bay Blvd. would be great for riders along the southern end of Broad Channel as well as increase business for the bagel/coffe shop and the restaurants located near there as well.  Keeping the remaining stop at 5th Road/Cross Bay Blvd. would be good for the passengers along the northern segment of Broad Channel and adding back a stop at 3rd Road/Cross bay Blvd. would be good for both employees of Call-A-Head & for guests visiting the American Legion Post for special events.  For example years ago I attended a transportation forum at the Broad Channel American Legion Post and when I left the meeting I saw five people that were leaving from the meeting utilizing the local northbound Q21 bus which was operating at that time.  What would these people have to do today get off at the Wildlife Refuge and walk about ten minutes.  Can you imagine this walk in the winter months?   Regarding the Rockaway stops along the Q53 losing the stop at Beach 101st Street is totally unacceptable which incidentally is only operated presently in the northbound direction.  ( Please note the Beach 101st Street stop is not listed on the Q53 schedule bus shown on bus time as a stop only in the northbound direction.)   This stop must be preserved at all costs plus a stop added at that point in the southbound direction as well.   Losing the stop at Beach 105th street is also unacceptable.   In closing, please speak to, e-mail  and contact the civic leaders and for them to request additional hearings with the Broad Channel, Seaside, Rockaway Beach and Rockaway Park communities regarding the elimination of these important bus stops.

Thanks,
Carl
