Excavation of the sidewalk on the north side of W12thRd started early this morning as scheduled at the bay end of the block.
Excavation continued up the block in front of 55W12thRd until....
The excavator encountered a large copper line in the sidewalk trench in front of my residence at 55W12th Road. The copper line in question was pulled up approximately 1 foot from its initial buried base level and bent at almost a 45 degree angle.
Concerned that they may have displaced our home's water line, work was stopped and and the contractor informed me what had happened and asked me to ascertain if my house still had full water pressure.
I checked the faucets at the highest point of the house and I found the flow of water to be apparently unimpeded so the contractor's our initial assumption is that the line in question is not the water feed for our residence as the linear displacement and severe "pinching" of the copper line at the bend site would surely have impacted the flow of water.
In any event, I have been informed by DDC Field Office staff that sidewalk excavtion will be discontinued until this incident is examined further to determine if some other means of connecting the dewatering wells on W12th Road is required or decided upon.
I will advise of any additonal information as it becomes available.
Silly me but I.....
