He thinks it’s a gateway toy.
Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder wants to ban a mock graffiti kit from major toy stores before the product turns youngsters into miscreants.
“Graffiti is just the first act of vandalism. It oftentimes leads to drug abuse and drug sales,” said
Goldfeder, citing the NYPD’s “broken windows” strategy of targeting low-level crimes to help prevent more serious ones.
The lawmaker wants Toys “R” Us to stop selling “Kidffiti,” which allows children to do their best Banksy impression by supplying them with stencils and sprayable chalk that is reminiscent of aerosol cans used by graffiti writers.
Goldfeder (D-Rockaway) vowed to use “every tool in his arsenal” to get the product removed, including working with the city’s Consumer Affairs department.
He has also penned a letter to Toys “R” Us CEO Antonie Urcelay, asking him to pull the product from the shelves.
The company directed questions to the toy’s manufacturer, Jakks Pacific, which did not respond to requests for comment.
