Assemblyman Goldfeder Urges MTA to Expand Summer Bus Service and Ease Commute Time

In effort to ease the commute time for daily travelers and reduce traffic congestion during peak summer months, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder has sent a letter to the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) to provide additional bus service and more frequent limited-stop connections to the A train at rush hours.
“The Rockaways are already limited when it comes to transportation and during the summer months thousands of commuters from all over the city are coming down to utilize our beaches,” said Assemblyman Goldfeder.  “I strongly urge the MTA to help reduce the often long and congested routes to and from our beaches.”
In his letter to the MTA, Goldfeder stated increasing Q52, Q53 and Q22 service would effectively minimize congestion and pollution that is often left behind by commuters idling for lengthy periods of time.
“We absolutely need more services to Rockaway and Broad Channel. This is prime time for our beaches, bay, parks, stores, bars, restaurants and our streets.  I see thousands of people on our beaches and our streets,” said Phil McManus, transportation advocate of the Queens Public Transit Committee. “It’s bad business when getting to Rockaway gets too unbearable. We will lose revenue and reputation.  The MTA needs to listen to the people. Thank you to Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder for his diligence.”

“Increased bus service would alleviate the volume of beachgoers packed at the bus stop waiting for the next bus to arrive,” said Sonia Cassata, Rockaway resident. Also, more buses would stop the crowds from running through the street when they see a bus coming, potentially getting injured.”
“Worrying about an overcrowded bus passing you by shouldn’t be a concern on your daily commute,” Goldfeder concluded. “I hope the MTA will listen to the concerns of our community and work to make improvements to increase bus service and ease commute times for our families and visitors.”
