Stay Strong,
Summer Reading 2014!
The Summer Reading Challenge is back!  As a father of 2 young children who both successfully completed the challenge last year, I understand the value of continuing our education into the summer.

To complete the challenge, children must read by themselves or with a partner for a minimum of 15 minutes every day for at least 40 days throughout the months of July and August. Children who successfully complete the program will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate personally delivered by me at your child's school. Please contact the school for more information about the program and to participate.

Input on Parks Department Tree Planting
I have requested the Parks Department implement a system to allow residents more input on the placement of street trees as well as an option to opt-out of the program upon request.
Currently, homeowners can request a tree planting by submitting a service request through the Parks Department or by calling 311, however there is no system in place for residents to refuse a tree in front of their property. I appreciate the eagerness to green our community, but residents deserve to be included in the process.

 Small Business of the Month
Congratulations to Jeff Bershad, of J & B Home Improvements on winning April's Small Business of the Month Award. I want to thank Jeff for his tireless efforts to provide relief to countless residents throughout our community despite his own home being damaged during Sandy.

To nominate a small business to be considered for this recognition, please email me directly atgoldfederp@assembly.state.ny.us
