Sanitation Snow Removal Issue

A sanitation pay loader made a single pass down West 12th Road earlier today and simply shunted the higher snow and ice in the middle of the street to the side.

Previous snowstorms saw sanitation make several passes clearing the entirety of the street and pushing the snow and ice to the bay end of the block.

Several W12th Road residents as well as other west side streets in the Channel, who had spent hours shoveling the curb side street in front of their houses to allow for the plow to shove it to the end of the block were not too pleased when the plow operator simply deposited the fruits of their labor right back where it started.

This issue was exacerbated by another sitiuation (since resolved) that had arisen earlier today when the Parks Department placed flyers on all cars parked on the Cross Bay Boulevard media warning that they would be ticketed and towed if they were not moved.

Residents were busily attempting to clear parking in front of their homes so as to move their cars off the Cross Bay Boulevard median to avoid being ticketed and towed and along comes the plow and negates all their work by side dumping the cleared snow from the street instead of moving it to the end of the block.!

I just got off the phone with Dan Mundy Jr., President of the Broad Channel Civic Association, who stated he has been in communication with the area sanitation supervisor who is aware of this issue and has indicated that he will dispatch plow operators who are familiar with Broad Channel to correct this situation today.

Hopefully this issue will be corrected in short time, especially in light of the dramatically colder temperatures our area will be experiencing starting Monday night.

As an aside, when I spoke with Dan Mundy Jr.he said he was sleeping when I initially contacted him.

I didn't realize Dan slept!
