Assemblyman Goldfeder and staff joined Friends of Rockaway to help rebuild and repair a home severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy

Rockaway, Queens - In effort to assist families still struggling to fix their Sandy-damaged homes, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Rockaway) together with his dedicated staff, partnered with Friends of Rockaway, a local non-profit, to help homeowners finish repairs and make a full recovery after Superstorm Sandy.

“Although Sandy ravaged our communities more than a year ago, many families are still struggling to rebuild,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “It was through the kindness and generosity of strangers that we survived and we must continue to go the extra mile and help each other until every family is safe and secure back in their own home.”
To welcome the new year, Goldfeder and his team contributed their time and efforts to help remediate a resident’s home that was destroyed during Sandy by nearly 8 feet of water. During the visit, Goldfeder and his staff worked together to prepare and install all the insulation on the first floor of the family's home just in time for the cold of winter.
“We still have a long road ahead of us in our recovery and Assemblyman Goldfeder’s day of volunteering is a perfect example of how Rockaway will drive that process,” said Todd Miner
director of Friends of Rockaway.  “We will all continue to get our families back into safe, secure housing in a way that is predictable and efficient.  Friends of Rockaway will continue to work for the community until all our families are back in their houses.”

“I will continue to do everything I can to ensure our families stay in the community and feel safe once again,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “If we stay united, our community will become stronger and more resilient for the future.”

Friends of Rockaway was created in the immediate days following Superstorm Sandy by local volunteers to help residents remove mold from their storm-damaged homes and has evolved into a full nonprofit organization servicing contractors to help homeowners rebuild their homes.
