STATUS
(as of  8pm June 7, 2013)

[Note:  Changes from last update highlighted in red...]

Location:  606 miles SW of Broad Channel
Pressure:  996 mb
Wind Speed:  45 mph

What Can We Expect?
(Friday through Saturday)

Arrival of Andrea's Center of Circulation in our area:  late Friday night, early Saturday morning.  [Note: The rains from Andrea will precede its center of circulation by 12 hours]

Thunderstorms: locally possible
[NoteThe greatest risk for locally severe thunderstorms would be near and just east of the track of the tropical system's center of circulation.  Broad Channel is forecast to be west of the storm's center so our risk should be minimal]

Precipitation:  2 to 4 inches of rain with locally heavier amounts possible

Winds:  E wind 15-20 mph with higher gusts

Tidal Street Flooding?:  Yes [high tide 1-2 feet above astronomical height]

Storm Surge?:  None forecast at this time

Power Outage?:  Not anticipated

Public Transportation Disruption?:  Subway and Bus service should not be affected
[NoteTravel delays from blinding tropical downpours, poor drainage area flooding and locally gusty thunderstorms are possible.]

Cell Service Disruption?:  Not anticipated

Most Notable Change Since Last Update

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 45 MPH...75 KM/H...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THESE WINDS ARE CONFINED PRIMARILY OVER WATER AND NEAR THE COAST TO THE EAST OF THE CENTER. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS...AND ANDREA IS EXPECTED TO LOSE TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS LATER TODAY.
A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS EVENING'S HIGH TIDE AT 8:43PM.
I HAVE HEARD SOME NEWS OUTLETS MAKING REFERENCE TO THIS APPROACHING TROPICAL
SYSTEM DURING INTERVIEW WITH COASTAL RESIDENTS AND ASKING "ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE STORM SURGE?" THIS IS NONSENSE....ANDREA IS, AT BEST, A MEDIOCRE TROPICAL
STORM AND ITS SIZE, RAPID FORWARD MOVEMENT, AND SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS ARE NOT
CONDUCIVE TO ANY SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE ACCOPANYING THE SYSTEM. aT BEST, WE MAY SEE A 1-2 "BUMP" IN THE TONIGHT'S 6' HIGH TIDE AT 8:43PM.

Updates to follow....
