Community Board 14 Meeting Tonight Re: FEMA Flood Maps

COMMUNITY BOARD 14

Our local Community Board (#14) will hold it's monthly meeting this evening at the Scholars Academy in Rockaway at 7:00 pm.

FEMA will be present to discuss its new Flood Maps and Advisory Base Flood Elevations.

As I stated in a previous posting yesterday....

"if we are to have any chance of preventing our Broad Channel community from becoming a town of nothing more than abandoned and foreclosed houses and businesses sitting on a small island in Jamaica Bay we are all going to have to come together, with one voice and with one goal......the FEMA ABFE maps must be changed to rid Broad Channel of our new proposed "V" rating".

I strongly urge every Broad Channel resident who can attend this meeting to do so and to arrive early and register/sign up to make a public statement expressing our outrage at these new regulations and the accompanying financial disaster that they portend for our Broad Channel community.  Public statements will be limited to 3 minutes in length.

  1. Do they keep these meetings hidden from the affected victim homeowners on purpose? Always?
