Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder Announces Mobile Command Centers for Insurance and Banking Questions

Goldfeder announces DFS’ mobile command center hours for Howard Beach and Rockaway residents still struggling with insurance and banking questions in the aftermath of Sandy

Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Rockaway) announced that representatives of the Department of Financial Services will be at locations in Howard Beach and Rockaway to help homeowners, renters, and business owners with unanswered insurance-related questions and any issues with insurance companies more than five months after Sandy.

The Department’s representatives will be available to meet with residents inside the agency’s Mobile Command Center which will be stationed at the below locations on the following dates:

Thursday, March 21 at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of Staples located at 163-50 Crossbay Blvd. in Howard Beach

Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in front of Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder’s Rockaway office located at 214 Beach 96th St. in Rockaway Beach

Representatives will also help residents contact their insurers if they have been unable to do so and answer questions about homeowners', renters' and business owners' insurance coverage.

"Families and business owners don't have the time to drop by any of the few restoration centers still open," said Assemblyman Goldfeder. "That is why I'm bringing the Department of Financial Services to them. The Mobile Command Center makes it more convenient for residents to talk with a trained representative about their insurance concerns and questions."

In addition, residents unable to attend the Mobile Command Center are encouraged to call the Department's storm hotline(800) 339-1759 which is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Insurance information is also available on the Department's website, www.dfs.ny.gov.

“I commend Superintendent Ben Lawsky and the Department of Financial Services for making every effort to locate themselves within the areas hit hardest by Sandy, and making sure each individual home and business owner has the opportunity to get the funding they deserve,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder.
