MORE INFO...
The Sanitation Department has declared a snow alert starting at 6 p.m.
At a news conference this afternoon, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the deputy mayor will hold a conference call with the leaders of various agencies, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority this afternoon to discuss issues like suspension of street cleaning and declaring a snow emergency.
He warned that tomorrow's morning rush is not going to be easy, given that the hardest snow is supposed to come just a few hours before the commute -- making it impossible for all of the city's 6,000 streets to be cleared before then.
Although many parochial and private schools are already advising arents of their intended closure tomorrow, according to the Mayor's Office a decision about closing of public schools will not be made until 5 a.m. tomorrow.
