Hundreds of kids from tykes to teenagers, parents, families, friends and neighbors gathered on Saturday, Oct. 31 for the annual Children’s Halloween Parade in Broad Channel.
Imaginative costumes abounded, with princesses, dinosaurs, superheroes and Star Wars characters and even a Cabbage Kid in box and an astronaut and his miniature wagon pulled shuttle.
Hosted by the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, they started up Cross Bay Boulevard from 17 Road Park just after 11 a.m. Stretching out for blocks, the parade made its colorful way to the BCVFD firehouse on Noel Road.
Fire trucks blocked off the street so children could enjoy cupcakes, drinks and other treats in the warm afternoon sun. Many even got a tour through the dark and spooky “haunted asylum” maze the Volies had constructed inside the firehouse.
Groups of children enjoyed trick or treating afterward, with many residents holding bowls of candy outside their homes or leaving baskets that simply said “Take one.”
The day turned out to be all “Treat.”
