Dear Community Board,
The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is pleased to provide you with a few updates on our progress in implementing the new Citywide Ferry Service. As the agency implementing Mayor de Blasio’s initiative for Citywide Ferry Service, NYCEDC is committed to providing all New Yorkers with safe, reliable, and affordable ferry service.
Under the Mayor’s plan, the Citywide Ferry Service would expand the existing East River Ferry service by five new routes. The Citywide Ferry Service will be implemented in two phases. The first phase is expected to begin in 2017, with new ferry routes to Astoria, South Brooklyn, and Rockaway; and the second phase is expected to begin in 2018, with new ferry routes to Soundview and the Lower East Side. To ensure the Mayor’s goals, the NYCEDC will be building 10 new ferry landings, upgrading six existing landings, and utilizing five existing landings—a total of 21 landing locations.
As part of this citywide ferry expansion, NYCEDC is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will access potential impacts from the project on the environment. Please visit our new website at www.nycedc.com/ferry to find the Draft Scope of Work which contains information on the proposed methodologies for the EIS. Public comments on the Draft Scope of Work can be submitted in the following formats:
- Written Comments:
- Email citywideferryeis@edc.nyc
- Mail: Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, Attn: Denise Pisani, Senior Project Manager, 253 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York, New York 10007
- In-Person Comments:
- Oral comments will be accepted at any of the four public scoping hearings listed in the “Community Outreach and Engagement” section of our website at www.nycedc.com/ferry.
All Comments will be accepted until October 8, 2015 until 5:00pm.
We encourage you to review the Draft Scope of Work and submit your comments as we continue the environmental review process. Please share this information with your residents and encourage them to submit comments as well. Thank you for your support on this initiative, and we look forward to this exciting ferry service expansion.
Sincerely,
NYCEDC Ferry Team
