Dear Neighbor,
In his State of the State Address, Governor Cuomo laid out a sweeping vision for building new transit links to our local airports. To make this plan a reality, we need to take advantage of infrastructure already in place.

We can quickly create a true north-south rail link in Queens by investing in our existing rights-of-way and restoring the Rockaway Beach Rail Line. Reactivating this train line is the best and most cost-effective way to boost economic activity for our local small businesses, create real access to our airports, and improve transit options for thousands of Queens families and every resident of New York City.

I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to provide real funding for the restoration of the Rockaway Beach Rail Line and truly prepare our community, city and state for the successful future our families deserve.

Stay Strong,
FEMA, Sandy, CRS, de Blasio

Lowering Flood Insurance Rates
It has been over 2 years since Sandy devastated our community and as many families are still struggling to recover, they should not have to be burdened by the cost of rising flood insurance. FEMA has a program called the Community Rating System (CRS) that can save homeowners up to 45% on their rates by encouraging communities to take simple steps to mitigate flood risks. I have asked Mayor de Blasio to explore this option immediately and hopefully give families the relief and peace of mind they deserve.
Veteran
Saving Veterans' Pensions
Military service can and should be credited towards state retirement plans. However, veterans who did not see combat, including the thousands of women barred from combat roles, are excluded. That's why I've sponsored a bill that will allow state employees who served in our military during peace time to credit their service towards their state pensions. This bill will ensure that all of our heroes receive the benefits they are entitled to, regardless of when or how they served our country.
A Victory for Commuters
When a power outage at the Marine Parkway Bridge stranded motorists for hours last November, I called for accountability from the MTA and Con Edison. Like so many in the community, I was outraged that the bridge didn't have generators in place to power its mechanical roadway in emergencies. Now, thanks to action from the MTA, permanent back-up generators have been installed at the bridge and our community is now more prepared and resilient for the future.
