Stay Strong,
Preparing for a Disaster
In the same room that served as the biggest community based relief center in Broad Channel during Sandy, I hosted a round-table discussion with Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner Joseph Esposito and community leaders from every Queens neighborhood devastated by the storm. This was an honest dialogue about Sandy and what is being done to prepare our communities for potential future disasters. Commissioner Esposito has a record of unparalleled service at the NYPD and was the perfect choice to lead OEM.

Lights On in Lindenwood
After meeting with my office and the Howard Beach-Lindenwood Civic, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has already replaced broken street lights, fixed the fence and agreed to clean the pigeon droppings on the sidewalks from 80th to 84th Street between 157th Avenue and Shore Parkway in Lindenwood. This is a huge victory for our families and I want to give a special thank you to Joann Ariola, Barbara MacNamara and the entire Howard Beach-Lindenwood Civic Association for their hard work and tireless advocacy!
Fee on Staten Island Ferry to Subsidize Rockaway
Residents of Staten Island suffer with similar transit problems that we face in Queens and while I believe they deserve a subsidized ferry, 'non-residents' should have to pay. Recent studies have shown that a 'tourist fare' could raise as much as $4.5 million dollars a year, enough money to pay for the Rockaway ferry. I have called on Mayor de Blasio to create transit equity in every community and give our families in southern Queens and Rockaway the affordable, efficient and reliable transit options that we need and deserve.
