Big Time Carnival In BC
The lights were bright and the crowds turned out as a few thousand people each night had a great time at the 1st Annual Fall Festival held in Broad Channel from Sept. 24 to 28.
Presented by American Legion Post 1404 and the Broad Channel Athletic Club, the giant carnival spread out over the large parking lots of both groups just off Cross Bay Boulevard.
The festival featured nearly a dozen full sized rollicking rides for children and adults, and an impressive array of midway games from basketball hoop shoot to horse racing. Quite a few lucky winners walked away with prizes.
Kids also enjoyed pony rides, and the BCAC hosted soccer games out on their field.
The crowds also enjoyed food stands offering everything from pizza and sausage and pepper to funnel cakes, Italian desserts and expresso, and even a beer garden.
Live music was a big part of the fair, with Elvis impersonator Don Anthony and other bands performing each night.
Although rain cancelled activities on Thursday, Sept. 25, the fun fair extended its hours to compensate and enjoyed good weather on all other days.
Hundreds of cars were parked along the curbs and on the Cross Bay median for blocks around each night as visitors came from far and wide to the festival.
The hugely successful event had more than a few fairgoers favorably comparing it to fond memories of Rockaways’ Playland.
