Dear Neighbor,

This weekend while we prepare our recipes for a MemorialDay barbeque, let us take the time to remember that there are still thousands of American soldiers abroad who put their lives at stake for us-not just today, but everyday. This Memorial Day weekend, let us pay tribute and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

If you would like to honor any of our local heroes thisMemorial Day, several parades and ceremonies are being held at the following locations:
  • Sunday, May 25 at 1:00pm starting at East 4th Road and Cross Bay Blvd. in Broad Channel
  • Monday, May 26 at 11:00am starting at Coleman Square in Howard Beach
  • Monday, May 26 at 12:00pm starting at St. Francis De Sales in Belle Harbor
You can stay up to date with community news and daily updates by following me on Facebook and Twitter

Have a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend!
Inhale With Relief
After many years of fighting for relief from the noxious odor, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has finally capped treatment tanks at the Rockaway Waste Water Treatment Plant. In addition, they have installed an air filtration system and planted over 100 trees to further mitigate the smell. This is a huge step forward for our community and I commend DEP for finally taking the necessary actions to ensure our air is clean and healthy for our neighborhood and children.
Street Repair Project in Broad Channel
I am proud to announce road repairs and repaving have already begun for severely damaged streets and sidewalks  on Cross Bay Blvd. between 5th and 20th Roads in BroadChannel. Our streets and sidewalks in Broad Channel have needed upgrades for years and Sandy only made the situation worse. Rebuilding our roadways is an encouraging sign that our community is coming back stronger than ever. I commend the DOT and DDC for listening to our concerns and ensuring our families make a complete recovery.

More Parking in Ozone Park
Last week, I sent a letter to ConEdison requesting access to a vacant property adjacent to Middle School 137, America's School of Heroes, to provide much needed parking for educators and parents. Creating additional parking will help encourage parents to be more involved in student activities  and alleviate street parking for homeowners in Ozone Park. A small gesture from ConEdison will go a long way in easing parking congestion and building a strong community relationship
