Dear Neighbor,

We cannot wait for another disaster to address ourroadways and emergency evacuation routes. I sent a letter to State and City Commissioners of Transportation Joan McDonald and Polly Trottenberg, requesting their respective agencies take immediate steps to ensure designated evacuation routes and signage are updated and maintained regularly.

The lack of updated and clear signage marking evacuation routes, coupled with our crumbling and tire-busting roadways is a major safety concern for our community. I will work with the City and State DOT until our roadways are properly maintained and labeled for our families in the event of an emergency.

Stay Strong,
Flooding In Lindenwood
Sadly, once again, it took a major storm to demonstrate that our sewer infrastructure is not prepared to deal with rising flood waters. Sandy should have been a wake up call to invest in our aging sewer system and yet, our families in Lindenwood have suffered with more losses and another painful recovery. I will continue to hold accountable every agency until all our families receive the peace of mind they deserve.

  Rockaway Development
In an effort to ensure that our local families are provided a voice and input on the redevelopment of Arverne East, I have sent a letter urging L&M developers and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to hold public meetings to discuss potential plans and collect community input before projects are finalized and shovels are in the ground. It is important that every resident be heard and we allow for a public forum for Rockaway families, potentially impacted, to offer their input and voice their concerns.

Squatters Evicted in Howard Beach
After countless calls and pressure from my office and the Forum Newsgroup, the squatters in Howard Beach have been evicted. Bayview Loan Servicing together with the 106th Precinct chained the front doors closed on a vacant house that had been inhabited by squatters. This house was not only an eyesore in our community, but also a hub for criminal activity. I commend the NYPD and Bayview Loan Servicing for taking quick action and I will make sure this property stays secured in the coming months and the precinct alerted immediately if thesquatters return.
