Broad Channel
Flood Mitigation Project Update
(New Bulkheads, Water/Sewer Lines and Raised "Shared" Streets)
[Capital Project HWQ 1182]
On Thursday, April 24, 2014, the DOT, DDC, The RBA Group, and EIC Associates, Inc., provided an update of the current status of the Broad Channel Flood Mitigation Project involving the installation of new bulkheads and new infrastructure and raised streets for West 11th, 12th and 13th Roads.
In attendance were:
Dalila Hall, Queens DOT Commissioner
Eric McFarlane, Deputy Commissioner for Infrastructure DDC
Joe Menza, The RBA Design Group
1. The Project Schedule for this Capital Project has not been finalized but should be completed by the contractor (EIC Associates, Inc.) within 2-3 weeks.
2. EIC Associates is in the process of identifying office space within Broad Channel for their Community Liaison Representative.
3. According to Joseph Branco, President of EIC Associates, it is anticipated that work on the construction of new bulkheads for West 11th, 12th and 13th Roads will commence during June 2014.
4. It is unclear at this time how the construction of the new bulkheads will be sequenced...one street at a time or at the same time. In any event, work on new street infrastructure (water and sewer lines) will not take place until the bulkheads are completed and in place.
5. There is a possibility that restrictions on street parking on West 12th Road will take place during June 2014. Additional diagonal parking will be provided along the Cross Bay Boulevard median to accommodate resident parking.
6. As soon as the EIC Broad Channel field office is established we will meet with the EIC Community Liaison Representative, obtain current project schedules and establish an open line of communication between the general contractor and all residents of West 12th Road to ensure that everyone is kept aware of what is going on and to provide a means of addressing any questions, complaints or problems that may arise during this project. The below listed residents of West 12th Road have been tentatively identified to serve as liaisons with the EIC Associates Community Representative during this project.
We will keep you advised of any and all significant developments in this matter as they occur.
