FEMA has agreed to again extend by six months its deadline for Sandy victims to submit flood insurance claims.
The new date to file is Oct. 30.
U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) last week called for an additional extension.
They said because many homeowners are sill waiting for repair work to begin, and unsure of additional rebuild expenses, previous proof-of-loss deadlines have been unrealistic.
The latest deadline was Monday, April 28. They said that as of April 30, a new six-month FEMA extension deadline would kick in, to Oct. 30.
Schumer said it was "great news," while Ms. Gillibrand called it a "critical extension."
"(It) will provide Sandy-impacted homeowners who are still piecing their lives back together the necessary time to enable them to file flood insurance claims that fully reflect all their losses," Ms. Gillibrand said.
And what of the ever elusive BIB? Shall grants ever be made? Stay tuned for the next episode of, As Sandy Spurns.
