Broad Channel Thanks St. Albans Vets for Their Service...

V.F.W. Prince-Wynn Post #260
705 Shad Creek Road
Broad Channel

On Sunday, April 6, 2014, Broad Channel's V.F.W. Post #260 hosted a brunch for eighteen inpatient veterans from the St. Albans Veteran's Hospital and Community Living Center.

The V.A. bus arrived on Shad Creek shortly after 1:00 p.m. and the veterans were disembarked and escorted into the post via the rear of the building which has a wheelchair access ramp.

Each veteran was individually greeted and escorted into the dining hall where they were presented with a new dress shirt next to a sign welcoming them to the Broad Channel Post.

Prior to the arrival of the vets, Matty, Rob and Kevin were hard at work in the kitchen
preparing the day's meal which consisted of:

Caesar Salad

Steak
Double Baked Potatoes
Stuffed Mushrooms
Vegetables

Coffee and Cake

Each vet was personally served their meal by members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary who made sure their orders were taken, promptly delivered and served while continually engaging all the vets in conversation.

The meal was a great success and many of them had seconds and one or two went for thirds!

You could tell by the smiles on their faces that the vets really enjoyed their company and attentiveness!  The meal was a great success and many of them had seconds and one or two went for thirds!

The afternoon's entertainment began shortly after the meal was finished.

There was Irish Step Dancing, courtesy of Meagan and Katie Corbett and Shannon Doherty, that had everyone's heart beating fast.

Maggie Turchio and Gabby performed an act with hula hoops that everyone will be talking about for a long time.

Then the floor was cleared and the vets were off to the horse races.

The weather was terrific and some of the vets joined Post members and volunteers out back to enjoy a great spring afternoon.

As the  afternoon drew to a close and the time came to board the bus for the trip back to St. Albans, each vet's hand was personally shaken accompanied by a sincere and heartfelt thank you for their service to our country by everyone present in the building.

To Our Friends at St. Albans....

You stepped forward when all others stepped back.
You  placed yourself between us and danger.
You sacrificed precious time with family and friends, missing those significant life events the rest of us take for granted.

Thank you for your service.
