Young ballplayers, parents, supporters and families will gather at the 17th Road Park in Broad Channel at 9 a.m. They will set off at 9:30 a.m. as the opening day parade marches along Cross Bay Boulevard to the BCAC Memorial Field.
Opening ceremonies will officially start the BCAC baseball season. In-house games with the BCAC Shamrocks teams will follow, and CYO league games will start at 1 p.m.
There will be hot dogs and drinks and bouncy rides for the kids to enjoy.
Kindergartners to eighth graders will participate in a ‘walk-a-thon’ to raise money for the Jamaica Bay Little League. They are hoping to raise $20,000 from pledges. Last year’s walk-a-thon brought in $18,500.
Individual prizes will be given for the top five fundraisers and, for the first time, there will also be a special party for the top fundraising team.
This year will mark the second Broad Channel Opening Day Parade and Ceremonies since the community was devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
