Sorry, BC, but don’t worry. It’s not a trend.
Well, besides that, and the endless snow, here’s what’s happening in the Channel.
There’s one more workshop on dealing with emotional and spiritual recovery from the hurricane at Christ Presbyterian by the Sea Church.
‘How To Start Living A Meaningful and Purposeful Life Again’ is something anyone can benefit from. Even if you had been to one or two of the previous three workshops, or none at all, this would be one to come to. Certainly you will be welcomed.
Many thanks to the congregation, Reverend Manas and David Cook, who has lead the sessions, for bringing this to the BC community.

Been on a Manhattan bound A train recently on these single digit mornings? I hear there have been some significant signal delays.
As one caller pointed out, aren’t all the signals, as well as a lot of the equipment, brand new?
Since the storm basically destroyed almost all of the system and tracks all the way from Rockaway toHoward Beach, none of it can be any older than when the line was rebuilt last year.
Hmmm. Sounds like some calls to the MTA are in order.
Be prepared. This could be the year for your child to experience new adventures, learn new things and join the Scouts.
Broad Channel Scout Troop 282 now has open, ongoing registration every Monday night.

The BC Scout Troop is not limited, by the way, to boys only living in Broad Channel. Residents of other areas are welcome.
There are many dedicated individuals who continually put their time and effort into making Broad Channel a special place. It wouldn’t be Broad Channel without them.
Then there are those parents, grandparents, interested parties and just plain good people who put a tremendous amount of energy, care and patience into giving the best to our kids.
Looking back, this has gone on for generations in our town. Looking forward, both groups are setting the best example and the best yardstick for generations to come.

You know, I’d better check in with Allstate and see if my defensive driving class discount is up. Three years goes by so fast!
By the way, CCD stands for Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. I knew you might have been wondering. So I looked it up. You’re welcome.

Over the past year many people have asked me about one particular BC Bits column called “You’re Probably From Broad Channel If…”
Written in the aftermath of Sandy, people said it reflected a lot of BC’s ‘just-after-the-storm’ experience. They even quoted their favorite lines from it.
The column recently was reprinted in the January 3rd, 2014, issue of The Wave. If you’d like a copy of your own, just go to www.rockawave.com and look up that edition under the “Archive” tab. You can even print the actual page. Enjoy!

Many thanks to all those, including Steve Hawk, Dan Mundy, Nancy Herman, Kathy Lawless, John Porcheddu and others, who sent such beautiful pictures of icebound Broad Channel and Rockaway last week. One great thing about my job is I get to see so many great shots by so many talented photographers. I may not get to use them all, but it’s always nice to share these in print. Especially nice if a photographer is getting published for the first time.
So, got BC news? Send it to me at workingstories@aol.com!
Thanks for reading.
