National Weather Service Issues Coastal Flood Statement

Coastal Flood Statement

COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
612 AM EST SAT DEC 14 2013

...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING MAY OCCUR WITH THE SUNDAY MORNING HIGH
TIDE CYCLE...

.LOW PRESSURE MOVING OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST TONIGHT AND TOWARD
EASTERN LONG ISLAND BY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING WILL GENERATE STRONG
EASTERLY WINDS AS IT INTERACTS WITH STRONG HIGH PRESSURE TO THE
NORTHEAST. THESE WINDS WILL PRODUCE A STORM SURGE...WITH WATER
LEVELS AS HIGH AS 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE ASTRONOMICAL HIGH TIDE LEVELS
THAT COULD CAUSE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING IN SPOTS. IF THE STORM
MOVES MORE SLOWLY THAN EXPECTED...THE DEGREE OF FLOODING COULD
BE GREATER AND AND/OR MORE WIDESPREAD THAN EXPECTED.
