Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J. Goodbye "Katia" - Hello "Maria"?
The jet stream will steer Hurricane Katia away from our coast out into the North Atlantic causing us little more than a "high surf advisory" for our area through tomorrow evening.
Unfortunately, as Katia begins pulling away from us, Tropical Depression 14 has formed in the Central Atlantic and is expected to become a Tropical Storm later today and reach Hurricane strength by next Monday with a north-west track heading for the U.S. mainland. Once this depression reaches Tropical Storm status laer today it will be named ."Maria."
Over the next several days, the computer models will start coming together regarding the long range track of "Maria" so all we can do for now is watch it closely.
