...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM EDT THIS
MORNING...
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
NOON EDT FRIDAY...
The National Weather Service in New York NY has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to
noon EDT Friday.
* LOCATIONS...Northeastern Suffolk, Southeastern Suffolk and
Southern Queens.
* TIMING...Until 11 AM EDT this morning and again from 5 PM this
afternoon to noon EDT Friday.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...One to two feet of inundation above
ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and
tidal waterways, resulting in shallow flooding. There is a low
threat of property damage. Some roads and low lying property
including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with
basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...The combination of elevated water levels
and large breaking waves will cause beach flooding and erosion
on the oceanfront and on north facing shorelines of the forks of
Long Island.
* OUTLOOK...Additional coastal is possible into Friday night.
An offshore storm will continue to meander east and southeast of
our area through Friday. This will bring another period of rain
after some lighter spotty showers early, followed by a steadier
rain for much of the area later this afternoon into this evening.
The winds will increase today resulting in gusts up to 50 mph
across immediate eastern coastal sections, with gusts mainly
between 30 and 40 mph elsewhere.
The rain is expected to taper off later tonight and into Friday as
the storm will begin to gradually move to the east. The winds will
also begin to decrease into Friday. Overall, an additional inch to
an inch and a half is expected east of the New York City metro,
with amounts lowering quickly further west across the area.
Coastal flooding is also a possibility, and expected across some
coastal areas during times of high tide through Friday.
Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J.
