Dear Neighbor,

Legislative session has officially ended in Albany. I’m proud of what we accomplished, but there is still much work left to do. I look forward to being with my family and our community this summer!

Passage of Bill in NYS Assembly to Eliminate Toll on the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge

I made a pledge before taking office that I would work to eliminate the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge toll. Last week, I had a thrilling win and a great step forward for our community in the NYS Assembly. As I have stated countless times: The toll has outlived its original stated purpose of paying for the bridge, and has absolutely no stated current purpose other than supplementing the MTA’s budget on the backs of hard-working New Yorkers. As Legislative Session has ended this year, and the bill still has yet to pass the Senate, I look forward to its passage next year.

Small Business of the Month: Rockaway Beach Veterinary Services

Rockaway Beach Veterinary Services is a locally owned small business that provides top quality services not only to our pets- who are extensions of our families- but across our community. Team Stacey found that out first hand when we adopted our office cat, Rocksea, from RBVS almost six months ago!!! Small businesses are the backbone of our community and deserve all the support we can provide- thanks for all you do!

Standards for Hurricane Windstorm Deductibles

This past week in the Assembly I passed a bill that would establish standards for hurricane windstorm deductibles. Hurricane Sandy ravaged South Queens-homes, local businesses, livelihoods, and schools were completely destroyed. After the storm, neighbors came to find that they were being treated differently by their insurance companies - even though they did nothing wrong. Our message in the Assembly is clear: We must protect our consumers in this state from natural disasters and from companies in which they entrust their financial security.

Congratulations 2018 graduates!

This past week and weekend I was honored to be the featured speaker at numerous middle and high school graduations , presenting NYS Assembly certificates of merit to several students at the ceremonies.

These students are the future. I can truthfully say that I left honestly inspired, knowing our community and our world are in very good hands. Whether the students I spoke to were Middle or High Schoolers, I’m look forward to seeing where they are going and what they will accomplish!
