Ulrich's Office Meets with USPS Reps to Discuss Complaints About Unreliable Service

On Wednesday, January 24, Councilman Ulrich's office met with representatives from United States Postal Service (USPS) to discuss his concerns about unreliable service.  The meeting was a direct response to the Councilman's public demand for answers earlier this week.

Although City Council offices do not typically oversee issues with USPS - a Federal agency - at least 20 community residents contacted Ulrich's office in January alone. Grievances ranged from late and missed deliveries, to careless errors in which mail - oftentimes containing important and sensitive information - was delivered to the wrong address.

Discussions with USPS proved productive, with representatives pledging to address delivery issues and give the Councilman's office better access government liaisons.

"It is unacceptable that residents have had such unreliable postal service. Sensitive mail - including checks, tax documents, bills and medicine - was often missing or delivered to the wrong address," Ulrich said. "It is my hope that USPS will take these concerns seriously and work to ensure my constituents receive the service they deserve."

Councilman Ulrich Announces Upgrades, Clean-up Efforts at Albert Road Triangle

As part of his ongoing initiative to boost quality of life in the community, on Wednesday, January 24, Councilman Eric Ulrich announced a series of upgrades and clean-up efforts at the Albert Road Triangle in Ozone Park. The eyesore, located at the corner of Albert Road, North Conduit Avenue and 99th Place, has been hot spot for litter, graffiti and illegal concrete dumping.

The project, which was initiated by Ulrich's office, is currently in the design stage and will beautify the trash-prone area. The New York City Dept. of Design and Construction (DDC) will be responsible for removing the illegally-dumped concrete and the jersey barriers, which are in disarray and have continuously attracted graffiti.
The removal of the jersey barriers will not compromise safety, as they were installed prior to Albert Road's conversion to a one-way street, preventing vehicles from cutting through. Additionally, the DDC reconstruction plans will enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists alike, adding a sidewalk on the Albert Road side of the triangle from the flashing yellow lights to the newly-constructed elementary school, P.S. 335.

"Given its proximity to P.S. 335, our office wanted to make sure that any upgrades to the Albert Road Triangle did not compromise safety," Ulrich said. "I am proud this project will not only beautify the area, but will also improve safety conditions, making it easier for school children to cross at the intersection.  I thank DDC for adding this to the current scope of work in the area."

Important Reminder from Councilman Ulrich - Deadline to Appeal Property Tax Assessments is March 15

Councilman Eric Ulrich would like to remind you that the deadline to appeal your home property tax assessment is March 15, 2018. If you disagree with the assessed value of your home, you have the right to challenge the assessment with the New York City Tax Commission.

If you disagree with your assessment, you must submit a TC108 form with the Tax Commission. You may view and/or download the TC108 form at this link.

If you need help appealing your assessment, the New York City Department of Finance is hosting a "Property Tax Event" at Queens Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens, at the following dates and times:
  • February 8, 2018 - 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • February 15, 2018 - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • February 20, 2018 - 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Tax Commission can reduce your property's assessment, change its tax class and adjust exemptions. Before filing with the Tax Commission, review your Notice of Property Value (NOPV) and if it has a line called "Effective Market Value," you must prove that your current market value is less than the Effective Market Value to win your Tax Commission appeal.

For more information about assessment appeals, visit the New York City Department of Finance website.
