Dear Neighbor,

Our neighborhoods in southern Queens and Rockaway are fortunate to have some of the greatest natural landscapes in the city. Our beaches, parks and waterways help bring visitors and generate needed economic activity for our local businesses.

After years of work and tireless advocacy, we're finally taking steps to make our community even more attractive. I recently met with with the amazing Mundy family and multiple government agencies to review plans for the new Sunset Cove Park in Broad Channel. Once built, Sunset Cove will help revitalize this former industrial site and create a new destination for our families and visitors from all over.

Cleaning Our Communities
After hearing complaints about conditions on a Verizon-owned vacant lot across from Robert Goddard H.S. in Ozone Park, I called on the company to act as a better community partner. In response, Verizon has agreed to regularly shovel snow on sidewalks around the lot and dispatch maintenance crews to remove trash throughout the year. With some regular maintenance and the occasional snow shoveling, we can ensure that this block reflects the pride our families take in this community.

Fighting for Safer Transportation
While we work together to expand transit options in southern Queens and Rockaway, it's still important to improve the services we currently have in place. That's why I've called on DOT to investigate the Q35 bus stop and traffic signal placement at dangerous intersections in Breezy Point near the Marine Parkway Bridge. Our families deserve a solution that works for pedestrians, drivers and the community as a whole.
VIDEO: Graffiti Fight Part II
Recently called on agencies to admit ownership of a graffiti and trash-covered area adjacent to the A-Train tracks in Hamilton Beach Park. Now that we've learned the land is owned by NYC Transit, I'm urging them to own up to this eyesore and agree to let National Park Service volunteers come in and clean it up. This is another great step and I'm confident we will have this area cleaned as soon as possible.
