The two dozen flags, which are spaced evenly apart at different spots in the park, explain that “a new city tree will be planted at this location.”
.Last spring the NYC Department of Parks, community residents and volunteer groups planted a variety of flowering plants in what is known locally as 17 Road Park.

At the time civic leaders and Parks officials noted that plans were in place to replace the parks trees, nearly all of which were destroyed or severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy
The upcoming plantings are part of the Million Trees NYC initiative, a city-wide public-private program dedicated to the goal of one million new trees across the five boroughs.
The program is soon to plant its one millionth tree.
