Broad Channel VFW Post 260 Thanksgiving Dinner for Disabled Veterans

This Sunday, November 8th, 2015, the men and women of the Broad Channel VFW Post #260 will again host their annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the disabled veterans who reside at St. Albans Hospital.

Although older and weighed down by passing years, with hair now gray and unable to walk without assistance, there was a day when each of them was young and stood straight and strong as they raised their hand and swore to defend the Constitution and our Nation.

After tearful farewells to their families they went off to war  where they saw and did things young men and women should not have to see or do. While many of us came home unscathed, many made the ultimate sacrifice and did not return while others returned damaged in body or spirit or both.

What many of you may not realize is that, as the years pass, the pain of combat related disability pales in comparison to the heartache of feeling forgotten by those who remained on the homefront.

Keep in mind that Veterans Day will be celebrated next week on Wednesday, November 11th, so why not take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and stop by the VFW hall early Sunday afternoon  and introduce yourself to some of these vets and speak to them for a few minutes while thanking them for their service and sacrifice. I guarantee you the Vets will sincerely appreciate it and you will come away feeling better for the experience!

Afterwards, stop by the canteen at the rear of the Post and say hello to and thank your friends and neighbors who work so hard and unselfishly throughout the year at the Post to ensure our veterans are not forgotten!

The VFW Men's Auxiliary would also like to extend the thanksgiving dinner invitation to all of our neighbors in Broad Channel who are Veterans as a special thank you for their service. Please join us and our guest's from St. Albans VA Hospital this Sunday at 12 noon.

What better way to commemorate this year's Veteran's Day?
