The tidal flooding was not unexpected as the National Weather Service had previously issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Saturday evening's tide earlier Saturday morning.
The cause of the minor tidal street flooding was twofold. With tomorrows approaching full supermoon and the relative alignment of the sun, moon and Earth that occurs, there is always an expected tidal departure from astronomical heights as the moon is a bit closer to the Earth and pulls a bit more on the ocean. Additionally, onshore wind effects accompanying a strengthening storm off the the coast of Carolina will add to the water being pushed ashore over this weekend.
It was very encouraging to note that the few inches of tidal street flooding on W12th Road came from side street canal tide encroachment as the bay water circumvented faulty or missing property bulkheads. There was little or no water encroachment onto the street from the bay end of the street where the coffer dam is in place as the new bulkhead is being put in place.
