MTA Power Outage sends beachgoers on an unexpected detour through Broad Channel

On Saturday, August 14th, 2015 an MTA related power outage suspended "A" train service at the Broad Channel station approximately 11:30 a.m. and disappointed beach goers were ushered off the trains to begin a long, hot trek up Noel Road to connect with already crowded Q52and 53 buses on Cross Bay Boulevard.

By 12:15 p.m. many displaced subway riders loitered at the top of Noel Road on the east side of Cross Bay Boulevard as they discussed the merits of attempting to connect with a crowded bus or just call it quits and jump on a north bound bus to head back home.

By 12:30 p.m. those who decided to "stick it out" and continue on towards the beach started to gather on the west side of Cross Bay Boulevard with many standing in the street looking northwards in the hope of spotting an oncoming bus they cold actually board to compete their trip.

The MTA was able to restore power and service to the "A" line some 2 hours after it had been suspended but, unfortunately, by that time, a lot of weekend plans had already been ruined.
