Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Will Be Closed Overnight June 18-19

All Traffic Will Be Detoured to Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be fully closed to traffic from 11 p.m. Thurs., June 18 until 5 a.m. Fri., June 19. All traffic will be detoured to the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge during these hours.

Electronic signs will be placed along the Belt Parkway and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn and along Rockaway Point Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive in the Rockaways, notifying motorists to use the Cross Bay Veterans Bridge. 

The bridge is being closed to allow for the delivery of a temporary bridge overpass, which is part of the $13.9 million project to repair the original 1967 Rockaway Boulevard overpass. The Rockaway Boulevard overpass is used by motorists to access the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge and for those traveling from Beach Channel Drive to Breezy Point.

The work is being done under an accelerated timeline and the reconstruction of the overpass is expected to be completed by November.  Once the temporary overpass is set in place traffic will be shifted onto it and reconstruction and demolition work will begin on the original overpass.
