Build It Back Not Giving Up
Agency will be going door to door in Rockaway, Broad Channel
Build it Back volunteers will be going door-to-door to do outreach on May 30 in Rockaway and Broad Channel, hoping to speak with those who have withdrawn or have been unresponsive to the program.
“We have not yet enforced a cutoff or not allowed people to reenter the program if they left at some point, but that time is coming,” said Rudy S. Giuliani, Borough Director for NYC Build it Back.
“Many folks left BIB out of frustration because of earlier policies and issues that BIB was experiencing. What they may not realize is that the program has changed significantly over the past year and a half and has added or amended a bunch of policies. Folks may now be eligible for something that they weren’t previously eligible for.”
According to BIB, volunteers will be going door to door on Saturday, May 30, inRockaway Beach, Rockaway Park, Belle Harbor, Neponsit and Broad Channel. Previous outreach events have already been conducted in Far Rockaway and Arverne, and according to BIB, were very successful. They will also have a few case workers on hand at Councilam Eric Ulrich’s office at 115-06 Beach Channel Drive in case people show up and want to work on their application that day.
“Build it Back still represents the best opportunity for many affected homeowners to take advantage of available federal recovery funds,” said Giuliani. “They should make sure they aren’t leaving assistance that’s available to them on the table.”
