Ozone Park, NY- City Council Member Eric A. Ulrich (R-Queens) will present a Bronze Star with Valor Device (“V” Device) to local Vietnam veteran, John Chichester this Thursday, March 12th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Ozone Park.

Chichester served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” Device in 1969 for his heroic actions in battle. However, shortly thereafter, the military lost his records and consequently rescinded his entitlement to the latter part of the decoration.

Chichester battled with the Department of the Army for over 40 years to obtain the Valor commendation but each request was denied.
After some work with Ulrich’s office last December and with the help of new supporting documentation, Chichester’s appeal was finally granted and the Army amended his discharge to reflect his entitlement to the “V” Device.

The “V” Device is worn to denote participation in acts of heroism involving conflict with an armed enemy.
Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder will also honor the veteran with a New York State Assembly citation.
