Dear Neighbor,
Earlier today, the Mayor announced that all city streets will be closed to non-essential traffic after 11pm this evening ahead of record-breaking snowfall. Forecasts are now calling for 20-30 inches of snow throughtomorrow night.  With conditions steadily worsening on the city's highways and streets, I urge everyone to take extreme caution while travelling and to avoid all unnecessary travel.

The following are the latest updates and closures:
  • Service on Metro North and LIRR will stop at 11pm tonight.
  • Subway and bus service will be suspended after 11pm. Trains and buses will run local service only after 8pm.
  • Port Authority Bridges and Tunnels will close at 11pm tonight.
  • City schools will be closed tomorrowJanuary 27th.
  • Alternate side parking suspended tomorrow.
  • Garbage and recycling suspended tomorrow.
  • City public parks and recreation facilities
    closed as of 6pm tonight.
  • City senior centers will be closed tomorrow.
  • MTA Bridges and Tunnels remain open
with posted speed restrictions and staff onsite to monitor facilities. Pedestrian walkways on bridges will be closed.
I will continue to follow the status of response and recovery efforts throughout tonight and tomorrow. During this time, you can receive the latest updates by visiting my Facebook and Twitter pages, or by emailing me at goldfederp@nysa.us.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any concern.

Stay Strong,

Tips for Staying Safe
These are few helpful tips to keep you and your family safe and healthy during severe weather:
  • Stay alert of changing weather conditions and avoid all uneccesary travel.
  • Check on relatives, friends and neighbors who may need help preparing for the storm.
  • Avoid overexerting yourself. Cold weather and unfamiliar excersize can worsen heart conditions. Take frequent breaks and drink lots of water.
  • Offer help to senior citizens and those needing special assistance.
  • When clearing cars of snow, be sure to uncover muffler exhaust pipes before warming your car up. Snow cover can trap carbon monoxide in the vehicle, leading to serious injury or death.
  • Wear appropriate attire. Wear a hat, gloves and scarf and insulate with additional clothing layers to avoid hypothermia and frostbite.
