Broad Channel VFW BBQ (Saturday, August 16, 2014)

VFW Prince-Wynn Post #260
705 Shad Creek Road
Broad Channel

One of the ways the wonderful people up at our Broad Channel VFW Post funds
their continual services to the veterans of St. Albans Hospital is, you guessed it….a good old fashion community BBQ.

This past Saturday, August 16th, the Post hosted another of their summertime BBQ’s
from 2-6 pm with lots of ice cold draft beer and soft drinks, steaks, chicken hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings, clams on the half shell, a big backyard lush with neatly trimmed bright green grass, a view of Jamaica Bay and the Manhattan skyline to die for and some great conversation between neighbors and friends.

The grills were fired up and the steaks and chicken were already sizzling as Margaret Glade greeted everyone attending the VFW's BBQ with a smile.

The weather was great and the temperature was just warm enough to fill the picnic benches under the shaded canopy portion of the yard with everyone eagerly awaiting clams on the half shell.

Of course, if bright sunshine was not your cup of tea, you could always retreat to the canteen where Gail Waldheim had the A/C cranking!  Yep, that's you know from the A&E hit Television series, Duck Dynasty, in the background who dropped by to support our vets and wanted to keep it on the down-low!

A big thank you to all our friends from Woodside's  Catholic War Veterans Post 870 who came down to enjoy the day.
